Welcome to the Roundabout Theatre Company website! I am thrilled that you are interested in learning more about Roundabout's rich history, current programs, and promising future.
As you read about our history, you will note that much has changed over the years. During this time, however, Roundabout's mission has remained consistent. At the very heart of our work is our commitment to teaming great theatrical works with the industry's finest artists to re-energize classic plays and musicals. In 1995, we expanded our mission to include the development and production of new works by today's great writers and composers. The production of these new works, alongside the production of classics, enables Roundabout to embody the crossroads of American theatre. Our productions reach over 1 million people annually, including our 40,000 loyal subscribers. It is because of the incredible support of our audiences, our generous donors, and our visionary Board of Directors that Roundabout has continued to thrive.
Roundabout's current work is equally exciting. A quick perusal of our current productions will give you a sense of the diversity of Roundabout's offerings during this season alone. Further, Roundabout's extensive education programs enable us to reach out to our community in many ways, and we are proud of our partnerships with the New York City Department of Education in the effort to effect change in our public schools. Read on to learn more about our work in the schools and our other important educational endeavors.
Finally, Roundabout's future is filled with extraordinary possibility. Roundabout now operates three beautiful theatres, the American Airlines Theatre, Studio 54, and the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre/ Laura Pels Theatre. Each of these spaces fulfils a different aspect of our mission, and has given Roundabout's audiences, artists, and staff a place that we can all call home.
I am deeply proud of all that we have achieved together over the years, and look forward with eager anticipation to what lies ahead. I applaud our staff, the artists, our subscribers and donors, and particularly the City and State of New York, for the key role each constituency has played in our successes.
Thank you for joining us today. I hope we will see you at the theatre soon so that we may share with you in person the experiences that can only begin to be described on these pages. Enjoy your journey.
Sincerely,
Todd Haimes
